    Beyond the beach in Bermuda

Famous for its pink sands, turquoise ocean and of course that infamous triangle, the small island of Bermuda with its quaint Englishness has a charm all of its own. And there is so much more to it than just the beaches. One of my favourite ways to see the island is by walking the disused railway line which stretches the length of Bermuda. Known affection ally as Old Rattle and Shake, the line was made into a national park in 1984 and over the past few years bridges connectin

Tea with the monkeys in Kenya

A visit to a Kenyan tea farm included an encounter with the local monkeys in a surprisingly English-looking country garden I'm taking afternoon tea in the garden of Kiambethu Farm in Limuru, Kenya and it feels as if I am in a country house on a sunny British afternoon. Just a short drive from Nairobi Kiambethu is situated at 7,200 feet and was farmed by AB McDonell in 1910. He was a pioneer in the tea industry being one of the first to farm and sell tea commercially in Keny

    More Lux for your Euro

LUX FOR LESS Reflecting on my recent trip, I am struck by how affordable Luxembourg is. The Luxembourg Card gives free access to more than 60 museums and tourist attractions, a visitors’ booklet identifying the most attractive sites to visit and travel on train and buses on the national public transport network of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg free of charge. It costs from 13 Euros for one person for a day to 68 Euros for 3 days for a family of up to 5. www.visitluxembourg.

Deep Yoga and Sound Healing on the Edge of Europe

'Are you aligned with your dreams?' The invocation resonates around the circular temple, echoed by the beat of a shamanic drum. 'This is deep work. Everything is possible. We are going to go deep. I urge you to surrender.' Our arms may be outstretched in triangle pose in front of a giant Ganesh, but this yoga and sound retreat is about yoga in the truest sense of the word, combining deep healing traditions from around the world. 'Asana is merely a preparation for meditation.

    A Toronto Food Tour

In the Dark Horse in Leslieville, Toronto, locals are devouring butter tarts the size of their fists. If Canada has a national food, it is this, a hybrid creation that is part French tarte au sucre and part British treacle tart. The Dark Horse is the first stop of a popular food tour with Culinary Adventures (www.culinaryadventureco.com) in which ‘Chef Scott’ takes visitors to an interesting mix of food and drink locations, peppering the walk with quirky facts and local anecd

    Costa Rica Top Ten

The rainforest lodge is only accessible by water, so I approach by rowing boat, gliding across Costa Rica’s Golfo Dulce from the former banana port of Golfito. My guide Diego gesticulates wildly with his free hand at a family of capuchin monkeys on land who are watching us arrive. Days later I encounter a mother whale with her baby playing in the same Gulf on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. Little wonder this is called the ‘world’s happiest country’. Above: Costa Rican frog Litt

    Thai buys

Thailand has pulled out all the stops to make shopping an adventure, from the glitziest malls to the most rustic of night market.international visitors hungry for the 'next big thing'. Rod Fai, or 'Train' Market, on a disused railway track in Bangkok, is a sprawling, eclectic flea market where shiny classic cars in mint condition stand next to vintage VW camper vans and piles of second-hand clothes and electronics. Cheap cocktails, sizzling barbecues and the ever-present arom

    Tofo – Diving in Mozambique

Some countries in Africa may be the home of safari, but Mozambique is becoming famous for its sea safari and the chance of see some of the world’s most iconic sea creatures. Whale sharks, manta rays, turtles and other amazing marine life make tiny Tofo, in Mozambique, an underwater heaven for divers and nature lovers. A whale shark, about 13 feet in length, glides by without so much as a blink of its eye. He pays little attention to a gaggle of scuba divers who have made the

Would You Swap Your Car for a Bottle of Wine?

‘You travelled by train?’ Anthony, the friendly waiter at Bedruthan Hotel’s Wild Café asks, with real interest. ‘That means we give you a free bottle of wine. Would you like red or white?’ Anyone travelling to the hotel in Cornwall by any method other than car qualifies for this gift. Why don’t more hotels offer incentives like this? The term ‘eco hotel’ rarely translates into something tangible for the visitor, let alone something they can actually contribute to and be part
